Dental Emergency Action Plans

When faced with a dental emergency you need to get urgent care as soon as possible.  Below we have outlined a few steps that should be followed to diminish the aches and harm to your teeth while you wait for treatment.

The most common dental emergencies are is a knocked out tooth, a broken or cracked tooth and even minor cuts or abrasions to your lips or gums.  These emergencies require action as soon as possible.  You should seek dental care the same day if at all possible.

While having Dental Insurance is ideal you may be able to visit a Hospital ER is the trauma is terrible enough.  Depending on your health insurance you may find that such treatments may be covered with the proper referral.

If you have a tooth that gets knocked out, you should call you dentist straight away for an emergency visit.  If you have found the tooth you should rinse the tooth off removing any dirt.  Put the tooth between your cheek and gum within your mouth.  Never try to place the knocked out tooth in the original socket.  If you are able to get to the dentist within an hour it may be possible for the dentist to implant the tooth back into its original position.

If you have merely cracked a tooth you may feel some pain, however in most cases the tooth can be saved with minimal work from your dentist.  More serious fractures will require a crown to prevent loosing the tooth completely.

Should you get a minor gash to the lips, cheek or gums you will find that medical treatment should be sought out instead of visiting your dentist.  This type of injury will most likely not be covered under a dental plan, but should be cover through your major medical or health insurance.

As with any laceration you should apply pressure to the wound immediately, and seek medical treatment. Having a good dental plan in place for Emergency dental related injuries are ideal but not always readily available to most.  Seeking out a discount dental plan for peace of mind is well worth the minimal expense.

Health Care Reform Not Dead

Most large companies are facing sky rocking health care costs.  The top brass from these companies are speaking out again.  Back on 1994 Hillary Rodham Clinton’s attempt to fix the United States medical system was shot down.  Very few are in support of a wholesale move to government directed medicine – but most are looking at changing up the current employer subsidized health system.

Health Insurance costs are rising at a speed faster than the current rate of inflation.  With companies facing sluggish sales due to competition from the Far East the can not rely simply on government-supported health care that is solely based on financing from taxes.

In 2006 a study showed that America’s health insurance premiums have increased by 87 percent since a similar study was conducted in the year 2000.  If we do not address this issue now, the next five years will put a strain on and will considerably affect American businesses to a point of uncertainty.

As the presidential primaries are gearing up, health insurance with compatible dental insurance will surely be a major topic of discussion for all those running.  The devastating cost of health coverage is everyone’s problem from the average Joe, to the smallest business.  But the biggest impact will be on the larger corporations with many employees that all are counting on health benefits when they retire.  This is why larger well-established companies are welcoming with open arms a government health care program.

Companies like Wal-Mart have already provided lower-cost health care benefits for their very large work staff.  Many other retailers with a big number of low paid part-time work staff are going to push for the government to play a larger role in the complicated health care arena.

The Wall Street Journal says Wal-Mart Stores introduced lower-cost coverage for its huge work force last year, after state officials and editorial writers criticized the numbers of Wal-Mart employees on state Medicaid rolls. Many retailers, with large staffs of low-paid, temporary and part-time workers, would welcome a larger government role.

Health Insurance And College Students

As a parent you should not overlook a solid health plan for your college student. Among all the other support you give to your son or daughter, selecting a health plan should be high on your list of things to do. Often enough your own health plan will cover your children when they are 20 to 24 years old. Your college student usually has to qualify to be put on your health plan, such as financial dependency on you and long term enrollment which would consider them a full time student.

If you do not have a health plan that can be utilized for your child, the college he or she is attending will likely have some available for your selection. Some colleges include health care coverage as a mandatory part of enrollment. An added cost on enrollment is often needed to subscribe as part of the health care coverage, which will be an another burden on top of the tuition cost. If you are worried and cannot find any other option, you may need to justify the extra cost and obtain health coverage through the college in question.

You should always do your research by comparing the costs and benefits of each health plan, even if you already have a health plan and you’re thinking about including your son or daughter in it as they attend as a full time college student. Deductibles and copays will be something your child may need to pay if they desire to be independent from you, even if they are financially dependent on you. You should take into consideration what type of medical treatments are included in the plan, such as xrays, lab work, doctor visits, surgery and dental procedures.

Another thing to consider is if they’re covered on spring break and other holidays, since college kids tend to get in trouble at these times. No Matter what plan you select, you should make sure the plan is inside your budget and properly covers your college student, as they are obviously important. There may be certain plans available to part time college students, however these will vary greatly with costs and benefits. There is lots of help available for obtaining health insurance and financial aid for students who aren’t covered by their parents, students who need temporary health plan coverage, grad students or students who are even married, and even international students who need coverage that complies with their visa requirements.
