Knockout Sugar, Keep Your Teeth

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

While some dental experts say you should brush your teeth after every meal – others have found that Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner foods containing sugar do not pose a problem.  Your mouth produces more saliva while eating; the saliva acts as a good mouthwash cleaning tiny food bits from between your teeth.

Yes, brushing is important – but flossing is a key to keeping those sugary particles from eating away at your teeth.  It is recommended that you should brush twice a day minimum.  Most flossing fanatics will floss daily, but once or twice a week will usually do the job.

Stay away from candy and choose a dairy product as a snack.  Cheese and just about every milk product, even yogurt contains nothing that can harm your teeth.  Plus you will get a dose of Calcium from all the milk products, which has been proven to help bones and those pearly whites – your teeth.

So limit your sugar intake, brush and floss your teeth regularly and visit your dentist at least once a year.  Although visiting your dentist may be an expensive undertaking if you are without Dental Insurance you can find many discounted dental plans that will help cover the costs of your dental visits.

Health Insurance Costs Steadfast

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

As the majority of the Michigan workforce faces layoffs and cut backs, a new survey finds employee’s co-pays and comprehensive insurance benefits are being offered with minimal price increases.

The average health plan cost per employee has remained the same as found in 2006 – hovering around 6%.  However consumer driven health plans increased from 8% to 11% in 2007.

Michigan has to be one of the hardest hit states in regards to the state of the economy.  Still many companies are maintaining health insurance and some even offer up dental insurance.

Although most health benefit plans are steadily increasing, companies are altering their plans to maintain affordable health insurance for their employees.  Many companies are now offering consumer driven health care and supplemental dental insurance plans that make the employee pay higher deductibles while keeping the monthly payments for their health benefits lower.

These changes being made by Michigan companies comes on the heels of many other states that took action on various health care issues many years ago.  Michigan dental insurance plans are being cut from many health benefit packages.  Michigan is not over the hump as employees will more than likely face more benefit concessions to avoid more layoffs and cut backs.

Free Dental Care

Monday, May 14th, 2007

Most Americans do not have dental insurance nor can they afford to visit the dentist every six months as recommended by various Dental Associations.  Proper dental check ups are even more important for young children.  While most adults can get away with less frequent dentist visits.

Miles of Smiles is a dental office on wheels, which helps people who cannot afford dental insurance for family.  The complete mobile dental office is a full service dental care vehicle.

Cayuga County, New York is currently the only known Miles of Smiles program nationwide.  Jackie Jones the creator of Miles of Smiles has over 20 yrs. of dental experience consulting and training in the dental arena.  Jones said they are helping people who cannot afford nor will even go to the dentist.

The free dental card program was launched back in November of 2006.  The volunteer dentists and hygienists have serviced over 1,500 residents in the Cayuga County area.

This is truly a great dental care program for low-income families as well and families in need of a dental insurance alternative.  With the further of consumer drive healthcare on the rise we will surely start seeing more of these types of programs throughout the United States.
